harp, harp, harp . . .

The "devaluation" of education nowadays is a favorite subject of those who aren't happy unless they're unhappy about something. While agreeing that things are different from when I was a student (and mye education from my parents' etc . . .), like most things, the change is not in all respects bad. I would agree that for someone to get through school without being exposed to Shakespeare in some way shape of form is neglecting an important part of A) Western Civilization, B) literacy, and C) humanity, I defy anyone to show me that there are huge numbers of people out there who manage to get through school eith some such exposure. Maybe there are more than there used to be (and that's regrettable), but I don't fear for Shakespeare in the long run. (Ask me again when my kids are through High School and college.)
