I don't know how they're defining advanced English for tenth graders nowadays, but at least a) you have lots of time left to explore the authors you're hoping for, and b) you sound like the kind of person who's going to read them sooner or later anyway (and probably get much more enjoyment out of them on your own, then by having some teacher over-, under-, or misanalyze it).
