The answer is almost certainly NO, and certainly NO if your concept of the Oedipus Complex is the simplistic he-lusts-for-his-mother idea (What the Freudeans say is actually much more complex and less sensationalistic). The key book is a thin and easy-to-read paperback called HAMLET AND OEDIPUS by Ernest Jones. You can read it in a couple of hours. You'll probably disagree with his conclusions, but be impressed by some of the points he makes along the way.Posted by Hamlet on March 20, 1997 at 09:16:36
