You're doing fine. If it doesn't confuse you, consider this as well: Claudius didn't just do one bad act; he set loose a germ of evil that is corrupting everyone and everything. This general sense that evil spreads and threatens all purity runs through the whole play, and it might be part of Hamlet's problem: he senses that his job is not just to kill one guy but to save the universe ("The time is out of joint....").Posted by Hamlet on March 25, 1997 at 10:35:21
