Basically what he's saying is that he's already done so much to try
and make the witches' prophecies come true that he has no choice
but to go forward. In a sense, that's true - unless he continues,
he probably will be found out and executed. But I don't like to look
at it that way. He didn't have to kill anyone - he could have just
been content with Glamis and Cawdor.
As to how he got to that point - human nature. Ambition does strange
things to people...
Or you could go with the whole fate theme.
