Taking his foolishness? He was an old senile man. Surely you can't blame him for his folly, he didn't ask for it, he wasn't a malicious character. He was an old man. He made a mistake. As for being the "best" woman in literature, it's all subjective. However, I don't really believe that any qualities she diplayed were unique to her. She forgave her father for banishing her. She knew he was not in his right mind, and that he was hurting himself more than she. Any daughter who loved her father would have done the same. I certainly wouldn't have given forgiving him a second thought. He was the one who was abused, in my opinion.
