Advice for production of Merchant

Greetings! I am a high school senior and am involved in the production of a 100% student-organized, student-directed production of The Merchant of Venice. To my knowledge, nothing totally student-run has been done at our school before -- which means that we have no budget and no time! :)

Because we have neither budget nor time, we're probably going to do bare-stage acting, with a basic "uniform" costume supplemented by character-specific accessories -- like a sash and a turban for Morocco.

Would any of you be able to give me some advice about staging and direction, based on productions that you've seen before? We would appreciate any and all input.

Who knows? if this production goes well then maybe more student groups will have similar ideas... so by helping us you may be furthering high school drama! ;)

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
~R~
