More than revenge...

I think a more important theme is all the problems that Hamlet
is suddenly faced with, and what this drives him to do. He has
never dealt with treachery or deception in this magnitude, and he
is at a loss for how to handle it. His father is dead, his uncle
killed him, his mother married the murderer, R & G aren't really
his friends after all, Ophelia seems to be against him too...
And on top of that, the ghost of his father charges him to set
it right. All these pressures drive him to not only revenge, but
an all-consuming hatred for Claudius and other characters
(polonius, r & g)
