underscoring the tragedy of Hamlet

I think that Ophelia (along with Laertes) help to underscore the tragedy of Hamlet's situation. All three have a father slain; Hamlet & Ophelia feel their love has betrayed them. In the reactions of Laertes of Ophelia, we find the extremes of taking up arms and suffering. For these choices, Laertes acts too quickly and ends up dead while Ophelia goes mad. Hamlet is faced with the same situation and the tragic nature of Ophelia & Laertes emphasizes the deep suffering of Hamlet.
