The 3rd Murderer

Contrary to Dave's reply you are right -- there is a mysterious third murderer after MacBeth 'hires' only two.

There is no solid evidence in any direction -- but there have been many theories. MacBeth is one possibility, as is MacBeth's servant (the one who brings word of L. MacBeth's death). It's never specified, and it could be anyone. I tend to think MacBeth would have been named if it was he who was there... but with only one extant text, it's impossible to be sure a mistake wasn't made at some point.
