Induction

It is likely that there was also a closing scene with Sly, which we've lost. That would make the whole Shrew play a play-within-the-play. This could have several purposes: to distance the audience from its potentially distrubing subjects ("It's only a play"), to allow for some inter-relation between the play and the frame (Both are about people becomeing what they're treated as, both involve disguises, etc.).
