The Moor of Venice

Sorry to be pedantic, but Othello was a Moor, from North Africa -- what we today would probably think of as an "Arab".

The theme of the play is envy and jealousy, rather than racism. Othello is an outsider, and making him a different race from the Venetians is a straightforward and easily understood way of indicating the fact.
