Characters are people? And here I thought they were parts written on a page...Representations of people in action - now, there's a start. Though as Aristotle would say, a play's the representation of an action, not characters; the characters come along for the sake of the action. Or Hamlet: "The play's the thing / In which I'll catch the conscience of the king."
Rather than applying deconstruction to Hamlet - or in addition to - you might want to apply a little Poetics.
