I couldn't agree more. When people start speculating about plays/movies/books it really gets under my skin. You know the sort of thing; "Well, if I were such-and-so I wouldn't have gone there in the first place." Well you wouldn't make for a very interesting story either! I know this is sort of off on it's own little tangent, but I just couldn't help adding my two bits. It's always more effective to focus on what the characters did, rather than what they possibly should've done.
