I agree, but

couldn't S have known some very strong women and used them as examples of feminine behavior, good or bad? I've always harbored the hope--alas, an unprovable one--that Anne Hathaway and Mary Arden were strong, opinionated, and vibrant women upon whom S based his wonderful female characters.
