don't forget the dowry!

Notice that Claudio and Hero's relationship follows social norms very closely--Claudio asks about her inheritance and has DOn Pedro (his lord/master) to woo Hero for him. Benedick and Beatrice, meanwhile are not as concerned about money, and hence their communication is much more honest. We make our own judgements today about which kind of love we'd prefer, but can you blame a guy for being interested in how much money he will marry into?
