Macbeth, at the beginning of the play was the most valiant and
respected man in the play (execpting perhaps Duncan,since he
was the king). Read the edescriptions of him by other characters
in I.ii and what the king says about him. This is why he
becomes king after Duncan. Then, because of his flaws, "Vaulting
ambition" he says, and others (think about it), his greatness
turns to tragedy along the duration of the play. Thus, he was
