Cuthbert Burbage constructed with his brother James in 1599 from timbers of London's first playhouse called The Theatre. They erected the globe in the area known as the Bankside on the south side of the River Thames in suburb of Southmark.
It held as many as 3,000 spectators. In 1613, the Globe burned down. It was rebuilt on the same foundation and opened again in 1614. It was torn down in 1644.
I got all this info from an encyclopedia.Posted by Amy on April 20, 1997 at 20:03:50
