the two who make up an Iago

Iago is always in search of his counter - He is the straight man on the stage, the Abbot in opposition to Costello, the Edgar Bergen who requires a puppet to complete his act. In the Tarot, he is the TRICKSTER and always near to him is the CLOWN. Iago says of Casio that he makes him look ugly. And that is because Casio is a complete man and not deformed spiritually. In other words the manipulation, that is Iago's chief occupation, is ingrown, and not because of an external event like envy over Cassio's preferment. Also there is the contempt that Iago feels for his chosen clown. For Othello it expresses itself in racism.
