Prospero like Shakespeare

I believe that Shakespeare was trying to portray himself and his life in the play the "Tempest". Shakespeare takes on the role as Prospero. Prospero states "Our revels now are ended." Ariel stands for his art, his dramatic genius which he now "sets free", much like Prospero to Ariel. the island is London; Milan is Stratford. Ferdinand and Miranda stand for Beaumont and Fletcher, who would become famous by working on the writings of Shakespeares Plays. This portral by Shakespeare may have been a symbolic way of showing the end to Shakespeare's career.
