Relationships

What if you WERE a father and a king? Try going into rehearsal and treating the others in the play AS IF they were - say - your subjects (don't think neccessarily King, but ruler) - treat Ferdinand AS IF he were your son (don't think, I'm his father, think, he's my son). Start from where you are right now - don't try to force yourself into something you aren't. It will take time. Also try to figure out what it is you want- both overall and scene by scene, from each of the people in the play
and try to get it every chance you have. What do you want them to do? If you can put your focus outside and not inside of yourself, you will be a dynamic actor and the inside stuff comes along. I agree with Amber- someone thought you were capable of doing this role - trust your director.
