--the most famous stage direction in Shakespeare, and a bit of fairy tale machinery. Look also at the whole spring-replacing-winter structure, itself inherent in many folk tales. You might want to do some reading in the mythic structure of fairy tales (There are books with that sort of title), to see how they're more than kiddy stories; more parallels to WT will then appear.
