Well . . .

It's not farfetched (Lucas could easily have read The Tempest somewhere along the line -- and as a sci-fi/film buff he would have been aware of the overblown parallels between Tempest and Forbidden Planet) ... but nor is it particularly fetched. Gurus, mentors, karate masters, etc. are a not unknown plot device, and it has long been matter of note that the robots in sci-fi films are more human than most of the people. That said, it's a not unlikely observation, but probably short of "brilliant."
