When he was 18, he married Anne Hatheway (whom at the time was 26 years old.) He had 3 children: Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet. Judith and Hamnet died as young children. The Shakespeare family started out as tenant farmers and later became quite wealthy. William Shakespeares parents were John and Mary Shakespeare. John was doing illegal wool trading but was never caught. When William Shakespeare and Anne Hatheway got married, they did it in secret but later told their parents. During the time in which Shakespeare lived, it was called the Elizabethan Times. At this time, there were a lot of rebellions,etc. It is said that probably some of the early Shakespeares were beheaded or hung. Shakespeares favorite theater in which he did a lot of his plays was called the Globe Theater, which burned down in 1613 due to a cannon that was being used for sound effects. The Globe Theatre caught on fire and was burnt to the ground. Shakespeare had 7 other siblings (making a total of 8 children including William). 3 of the 8 children died at very young ages making William not only the eldest son but the eldest surviving child.Posted by Jennifer Myers on April 09, 1997 at 00:49:58
