Star Wars' Sources

In a recent program on the BBC (shown to coincide with the re-release of the SW triology) someone stated that the original script of SW did not have the characters of R2D2 and C3PO. George Lucas then saw a film by Kurasawa (can't remember the title) in which the comic relief is provided by two bickering peasants. Lucas immediately re-wrote the whole SW script to revolve around the two bickering "peasants" (androids being the equivalent of peasants in the Star Wars universe).

But then, as Kurasawa took a lot of his inspiration from Shakespeare, (Throne of Blood, Ran, etc.) maybe the idea got to Lucas by second hand, as it were.
