Machiavelli also centers on what is to be appearance justifications. He blatantly states numerous times that if people don't know that you are corrupt, it's ok to be corrupt. He insisted that the way to gain power is to have the appearance that you are moral and loyal and everything, while you are really just manipulating the situation secretly.
It goes along with the idea of the Lion and the Fox. Iago is the lion, he is boldly proclaiming his loyalty to Othello and trying to "help" him, while he is playing the fox by carrying on secret schemes and manipulations.
