I suspect...

...that everyone who uses a Colllected Works uses Riverside; and the only significant alternative will be those who use individual paperbacks. Some of this is professorial lazyness: they used the Riverside back when they were in college, and so they just assume it's the one to assign. (That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it; aside from its heft, it's an excellent choice.)
