humor in Shakespeare

Where to start.... Tons of fun stuff, but you might start with Kate and Petruchio's wooing scene in "The Taming of the Shrew" Act II.ii. Also his spiriting her away from the wedding feast in Act III is pretty good as is the trip they make back to Padua in Act IV. See "As You Like It" for funny scenes with Rosalind (disguised as a boy) teaching Orlando how to love her. "Much Ado About Nothing" has a great eavesdropping scene where Beatrice and Benedick are set up by their friends to hear some truths about themselves. Any of the comedies will have humorous scenes and some of the tragedies will too, it all depends on what you are looking for as "humorous." Just as a suggestion, if you are having trouble seeing the plays as funning because you are reading them, you might try renting a video of recent Shakespeare on film or asking your local library if they have any of the BBC production. Its always easier to see the humor when things are performed.
