well, maybe...

If that is true, it would be in a social context that put no sniggering or campy implications to it, just one of those things that guys on long sea voyages do before returning home to their wives and children. On the other hand, that culture had a very idealized image of non-sexual male bonding, and so really deep male friendships were a staple of the literature, if not of life.
