research paper on Othello and Oedipus

Perhaps Oedipus cannot see the truth because he doesn't want to. He assumes he can find the cause of the plague, but when Teiresias tells Oedipus that it is indeed him, Oedipus accuses him of plotting against him. Perhaps it is also because Oedipus believes that he has already beat his fate (that he will kill his father and marry his mother) when he runs away from his adopted parents. He also feels safe when he hears that his adopted father died because of the prophecy. If the prophecy has indeed come true, than Oedipus will have to face what he has been running from. It will bring shame on him and his twisted family. Othello is interesting because he goes from a confident man, in love with and trusting of his new wife. But, mostly because of Iago, his outlook makes a paradigm shift. In Act 1 SC. ? Barbantio warns Othello that since Desdemona went against him in marrying Othello, she might do it again. This could be seen as forshadowing. Iago plants seeds of doubt in Othello's mind about Desdemona's faithfullness, never (until the end) accuses her of unfaithfullness outright. I hope whatever I info I gave you helps, and good luck.
