Shakespeare's own family

Shakespeare had three children, of which one (Hamnet)
died as a baby. The other two (Susannah and Judith) grew
up to be adults, and were (of course!) both girls. Shakespeare
had plenty of experience of being the father of daughters,
and so most of the parent/child relationships are between
fathers and daughters. Had Hamnet not died, I suspect that
there would have been more father/son relationships.

The few son/mother relationships (Hamlet and Gertrude, for example)
are seen very much from the son's point of view, so I think
are probably more indicative of Shakespeare's relationship
with his mother.
