Hamlet Act5sc.2 - conversation of gravediggers/comedy in tragedy

i am writing a paper on the mixture of the comic and the serious in shales[eare. i have chosen to write about hamlet, where the two grave diggers are talking over Ophelia's grave. I have analyzed the humor evident in their pseudo-itellectualistic bickering. Now i need to discuss the effect of this incident in its immediate context and in relation to the play as a whole. I have hit a writer's block on this one - i am not sure why humor would be used in this particular part of the play.
