Othello's perception

Othello has a problem with perception of others. He sees Iago is a soldier and therefore honest, good and loyal. He thinks Desdemona's pity of him is representation of her love. Then when he sees her pity Cassio, believes that also to be love. He also uses syllogistic reasoning when Iago tells him all Venetian women are deceptive, therefore, Desdemona must be deceptive. (She also deceived her father) Othello believes that either Iago or Desdemona is false, and sides with what he knows - a soldier.
I hope this helps somewhat ...
