King John - did Shakespeare write it?
King John has a declamatory style very unlike Bill's usual one. Our Shakespeare Group read it recently and we decided he must have employed a few apprentices while he took a nap. Since then I have tried to find reviews of King John but without success. Can anyone help?

Oh, I think he did.
Meres mentioned it in 1598 and Heminges and Condell included it in the First Folio. There are no other contemporary references so it probably wasn't his most popular play. Shakespeare did write a few plays that weren't instant hits.

Thanks, Harry
Do you perchance know of any reviews?

I'm afraid not
This one wasn't an instant hit--and it still isn't a hit. It's not performed often.
