Basically, you're on the right track, but remember thatMacbeth didn't want to murder Duncan. He wanted to be king if chance and chance alone would crown him without him having to do anything about it. It was Lady Macbeth that goaded him into doing it. They do realize that it really wasn't worth it, and although they do have to live with their conciences, they have both also crossed a very important line. They have become paranoid and because they have killed once and gotten away with it, there is very little stopping them from doing it again to try and put their fears to rest.Posted by Lady M on May 11, 1997 at 13:05:14
