Il Novellino - Massuccio Salernitano

Massuccio Salernitano wrote Il Novellino in 1476. Luigi da Porto adapted it as a play in (about) 1530 and approached the well known version. In 1562 Aurthur Brooke made it inot a narrative poem, which Shakespeare used as a source. For more complete information see Azimov's Guide, Chapter 17.
