Freudian Psychology/Shakespeare

Okay, everyone, I am at a total loss!
Taking Shakespeare class and still don't understand why it
all has to be interpreted in light of Freudian psychology.
Is there any evidence of Hamlet having sexual feelings
about his mother??? Why do modern adaptations
(i.e, Fellini) picture him in this way?
Am I missing it in the text?
Did Shakespeare actually play Hamlet the way Mel did?
