a happy ending

What a foolish notion to think that MSND could actually have "scary-horror" elements to it
We must not forget that not all the guests at the particular wedding it was written for are of a political hierarchey. To answer the question though, the reason Theseus allows Hermia to marry Lysander is simply the fact that this play had to have a happy ending? Why, take a look at the rustics scenes. Notice how they all have a great fear of "scaring the ladies"? The reason for this, is that it was common practice to hang actor after they performed a play which was deemed offensive. This was during Ancient Greek times of course
So in keeping in line with that notion, Shake decided to allow his play to end happily as well, despite the hypocracy involved.
