It is typical that other people in the play project their values on Hamlet. Trying to get him out of his funk in I,ii, Caludius calls it "unmanly" as if manliness were Hamlet's biggest priority, and assures him his inheritance, because that's what Claudius would want to hear if he were Hamlet. And so Fortinbras the soldier gives Hamlet what HE thinks is the highest honor, a soldier's funeral and the faith that he would have been the good ruler Fort plans to be.Posted by Hamlet on April 01, 1997 at 18:52:42
