I agree entirely

I think I miscommunicated what I was trying to say. Yes, Laertes was wrong -- and he realizes it. Yes, Hamlet shouldn't have died -- and obviously isn't overjoyed by it when the moment comes. But to say that Hamlet and Laertes failed to accomplish what they set out to do (kill Claudius and Hamlet respectively), as the original poster stated, is a mistake.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
