MND is full of dark elements: Egeus is willing to have his daughter put to death if she doesn't obey him, Lysander and Hermia run away from home, Helena throws herself at Demetrius and begs him to use her as he uses his dog, and Demetrius is still under the spell of the love juice at the end of the play. Add these elements to those mentioned in the previous post about the fairies, and you have a pretty dark play! Also, take a look at the relationship between Theseus and Hippolyta -- is she a willing participant in the relationship or a prize of war?Hope this helps.
