Think about this...

Think about Iago's relationship to Cassio. Cassio is Othello's
lieutenant. Iago is merely a sergeant (or thereabouts). Iago has
obviously been around much longer than Cassio (ie: he's older
and more experienced"). Imagine if you were in Iago'sshoes. Would
you like young Michael Cassio, very much? Or might you find a
little green monster known as jealousy creeping around the corner?

Or you could just chalk it up to some interpretations that
basically assume that Shakespeare originally intended Iago to be
of the devil. Personally, I don't believe so.

Sorry I couldn't offer more insights. You'll probably be better
off if one of the more established veterans of this page takes a
