Antonio and elderly man

I will have to mention things here that purists will not like. There is a painter analogy in MOV that suits the dueling that goes on between Shylock and Antonio too. They are both old men. The analogy is this: Antonio = Titian a painter who lived a very, long life, his friends known as the 'triumverate' were Pietro Aretino, the publicist, and Jacopo Sansolvino the architect who redesigned St. Mark's square. (a Lion is the emblem of St. Mark and Venice while Daniel in a lion's den is a prominent image of the play. These two become Solanio and Salerio. Then there is Lorenzo Lotto = Lorenzo and chiefly Jacopo Bassano who becomes Bassanio. The dependancy of Bassano upon Titian's art has been documented. There is more to this research, but let it suffice to help weigh the scales in favor of an old man, Bassanio's patron, who would not entertain the idea of a sexual liaison with him.
