Where did the superstition about saying Macbeth in Theaters come from?

I've been doing research into the history of the superstition
that you can't say the name of "The Scottish Play" in
theaters, and my reasearch is really plowing into dead ends.
Has anyone seen any evidence of the cause of the superstition
or the origin? I can't find any evidence of it before the
turn of the century, but it isn't written about much
aftorwords either.
Thank You
